This gourd depicts a scene from a mural at Bonampak, Chiapas, Mexico. It shows the Maya warriors with their captives from a raiding party. The colors are reminiscent of the polychrome pottery, that was produced by the ancient Mayans.

One of my favorite forms of art is done by the Aborigines in Australia. This gourd is in honor of their art form. It has a kangaroo on the front, and lizard on the back. The sides are covered with dream images.

The three figures on this gourd are from Alter Q at Copan, Mexico. Archaeologists believe they represent astronomers that attended a convention around 776 A.D. Mayan glyphs are a favorite reoccurring theme of mine. The figures are first wood burned onto the surface of the gourd. I then remove the outer skin of the gourd with a drill. This gives a three dimensional affect. The figures appear to have been carved on rock.
Dimensions: height 9 " circumference 28 " Price: $150. |

These stunning Maya glyphs are carved into a stela found in the ruins of Copan Mexico. One god represents the number and the other god depicts the time-period. The figures are burned into the gourd. The hard outer layer of the gourd is then removed with a small drill. The entire gourd is then stained with leather dye producing the rich coloring of this bowl.
